DEVOTIONAL & TESTIMONIES

“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,”

Psalm 103:1-3

I was woken up one morning by an unbearable pain on the left side of my abdomen. Alone in Berlin, I knew I had to call for an ambulance to get me to the hospital. The medics arrived in no time and decided which hospital to send me after a quick triage. At the hospital, I was diagnosed with dermoidcyst on my left ovary and had to be admitted for an emergency surgery to remove both the cyst and ovary.

Thankfully, my physical recovery was smooth and within days, I was discharged. However, my doctor recommended long-term medication to prevent another occurrence of cyst, especially on my right ovary. I was troubled as long-term medication would have side effects so I asked the Lord to show me His will.

One Sunday, during the time of worship, my pastor decided to ask the congregation to share a word or verse from the Lord. The Lord quickened Psalm 103 and I started to declare verses 1 to 5 over myself.

I felt the burden lifted and I knew that the Lord’s will was for me to trust Him and to preserve my right ovary. My children are a testimony of how God kept His word and promise to me. - By HG

Pray
Father, thank You for healing all my diseases and forgiving my iniquities. Fill me with Your peace and help me to overcome all fears in my life.

“Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.”

Acts 8:4

There’s that uncle again, standing outside our residence taking a smoke. I ran past him umpteen times during my evening runs but I’ve never spoken to him. I prayed earlier, “Lord, light the fire of evangelism in me again!” And there was my opportunity but, not knowing what to say, I missed it again. I said to the Lord, “The next time I run past him I will stop and talk to him.”

Soon, the opportunity came again. I saw him from afar and was praying silently and repeatedly, “What do I say to him, Lord?” And a voice said, “Just be a friend.” And so that’s what I did. I stopped, made small talks with him and after a few moments, he asked me, “Are you a missionary?” I was surprised, “Where did that come from?” I thought, I had not given him any clue that I was a Christian. But that question got us talking in the direction of spiritual matters.

We stood by the roadside for over an hour, and I told him my testimonies, debunked myths and even prayed for him. We exchanged numbers, spoke more subsequently and became friends.

Evangelism is about taking the first step to start a conversation. Then the Holy Spirit will empower you to do the rest. - By SC

Pray
Father, grant me the boldness to share Your goodness and love. Help me to be a light to those who have yet to know You.

“You comprehend my path and my lying down,

And are acquainted with all my ways.”

Psalm 139:3

I lost my car key recently. After searching high and low for days, I resigned myself to my carelessness and decided to use my spare key instead. Then I asked the Holy Spirit for His help in recovering the lost key.

About a week later, I took my daughter, Nicole, for a weekday bike ride after school to Changi Village for dinner. I went by a separate entrance to the hawker centre to withdraw money, an entrance I normally would not have used. In what would be such a miracle, Nicole spotted a familiar-looking key hanging at the entrance of the hawker centre. I must have dropped it in the vicinity on one of my rides a week ago!

Does God answer prayers even when it comes to such seemingly insignificant matters? Is there something or someone in your life that seems hopelessly lost? Take heart and know that the God of the universe is not just all-knowing and all-seeing – He's all-interested in even the most minute details of your life! Nothing is too small for Him.

If you ever feel small or insignificant, hear again the words of the psalmist in Psalm 139. That should put things into proper perspective. - By RP

Pray
Father, help me come to a greater realisation and appreciation of Your profound interest in my life.
